What does it mean to
Follow Jesus?
On your own, there is nothing you can do to bring yourself into a right relationship with God. Doing good things won’t do it. Religion won’t do it. Money, philosophy, science, or knowledge won’t get the job done either. For centuries, God-seekers have tried all of these paths with no success.
But there’s hope – because God loves you, He created a way for you to know Him, become the person you were created to be, and have heaven for your future. It’s impossible to have any of that without His forgiveness. That’s why God sent Jesus.
The Problem.
There is a huge chasm between you and God. None of us are perfect (no surprise, right?), but there’s more at stake than occasional feelings of guilt. Sadly, your life choices have caused you to be separated from God. In the Bible, poor choices are called “sin” and God described the punishment for sin – it’s death and eternal separation from God.
Trying to Fix It.
On your own, there is nothing you can do to bring yourself into a right relationship with God. Doing good things won’t do it. Religion won’t do it. Money, philosophy, science, or knowledge won’t get the job done either. For centuries, God-seekers have tried all of these paths with no success.
God's Solution.
We can’t earn God’s forgiveness – it must be given. Since God loves you, He created a way for you to know Him, become the person you were created to be, and have heaven for your future. It’s impossible to have any of that without His forgiveness. That’s why God sent Jesus. Jesus is the only one who can position you to be in a relationship with God. Jesus came to earth to take the punishment you earned upon Himself. Your sin should condemn you to death, but Jesus offered to take your punishment so you wouldn’t have to endure it.
Our Response.
To accept this free gift, it’s as simple as asking God to forgive you for all the ways you’ve sinned against Him while living life on your own terms. Secondly, you need to trust Jesus, not only to be your Savior, but to be the leader of your life. You’re committing to become more like Jesus.
If you want to invite Jesus to reconcile you with God and transform your life, you can do so right now. This involves repenting of your sins, or turning away from them, and committing to follow Christ. Feel free to express this commitment to God in your own words from a sincere heart.
